Changing a business name is a bit of work and the time you put in to make sure the change happens online is critical to the success of the effort, particularly for stores. One of the most important areas to address during a name change is that of business directory listings. These are the places like Facebook, Google My Business, and Yelp where the basic business information is present. There are actually thousands of places online where this information exists so, knowing which ones to handle by hand and which ones to push out a bulk update for is critical. In this article we cover how to make this work with minimal time investment.
Directory Listing Name Change Steps
This is AssetLab Academy PRO content!
This is a short article because we've found a great way to save tons of time.
The first step to changing business directories is to make manual changes to the following platforms:
Once these are done and the changes are showing publicly we strongly recommend that you purchase a 1-year subscription to MOZ Local which will handle pushing out the new business data all across the internet.
At the time this article was written, 1-year cost just $100. At AssetLab we use MOZ Local for our own brands and it is by far the most cost effective tool we have found for managing business directory information.
Once you have a subscription to MOZ Local it can take 4 to 6 weeks for the changes made to Google My Business, Facebook, and Yelp to make it around the internet. Be patient and remember that you paid $100 for an effort that takes 10 to 20 hours of manual time.
